First Session

Hello,

This is a blog to summarize my summer as a climbing/backpack guide for a Summer camp near Yosemite National Park called Yosemite Sierra Summer Camp. So far We have had 3 weeks of staff training. Two of which has been guide specific, going over both backcountry and technical skills as well as facilitation and soft skills at camp in our ropes course. We have also had one week of general staff training where we went over alot of camp protocal, camper specific issues, dealing with campers and planning for situations that we might encounter in general with the campers and program we run.

We actually just finished our first two week session with our campers. They arrived on the 20th and just left this morning July 2nd. This session has been filled with alot of backcountry time for me. I lead a girls trip for 3 days solo to a climbing area called the Turtle, while also taking that group on a day trip to Lower Jackass Lake. Right after returning from that trip I took off for a similar trip with a boys cabin to the Lower Jackass Lake area. Both trips were amazing and challenging. After returning from that trip I took off for a Day trip to Yosemite with our youngest campers. This trip is normally lead by the Nature Coordinator, (the position I had the past two summers). I lead this trip with the new Nature Coordinator to let her shadow the day and to work together to get the kinks out.

I had one day off on Weds. and now this session has ended. This one went past fast and I seemed to not be in camp at all. However I hope with things finally settling down and a rythm getting set I will be around camp alittle more, or at least in camp for the evenings and gone on day trips.
